Interesting article - definitely worth the read. Thanks for posting this Eric! I can't help but agreeing and disagreeing. Yes, I can see the trend to reduce spending continuing beyond the recession, but I believe how it impacts your business is really up to you. I say that because it is up to how you market and position yourself. How you brand yourself and your studio image, and whether or not your are able to make what you offer a "must have" for the bride and groom. Can you move your product and services from the optional or even desirable category into the we have to have this photographer photograph our wedding in order for it to be a success? Some people will spend less or eliminate photography all together. It doesn't matter if you do your job successfully and make the right impression on those potential clients that are "your people". I can't tell you what that impression should be, because it's different for all of you. It's based on what you and your studio stands for. What defines your studios style and image. I can tell you that there are enough clients out there that will spend a lot and allow us to keep doing what we love for a living. Even in a recession and post recession climate if you do a great job marketing yourself you can and will succeed, but it's not going to happen by chance.
