Hello all!
My name is Alex and I am the owner of Hanson Photography.
I have been photographing weddings for almost 10 years now, but more so in the past 4 years. I don't have a studio, I work out of my home. I am an on location photographer and so far that has worked really well for me. primarily doing weddings, but lately I have been digging into the newborn market. It actually works out really well to go into peoples homes to take the newborn pics.
I am from the Janesville area and have lived here pretty much all my life. I have a "real" 9-5 desk job, but that is only until the end of September. my company has been one of the many in the Janesville area affected by the economy. so that means diving face first into photography, and being a sahm.
I have 2 boys, 1 age 9 and 1 age 2. we also have another (and final!) little one on the way. It was a great time "planning" him/her around weddings! the baby is due December 13th, and I have a wedding booked December 27th, so he/she better not be late!
I did not go to school for photography. I have been involved in it as a hobby since I was 10 or so, and I have always had a love for art throughout high school. So I struggle with all the technicalities of photography. so when talking we me about anything technical, dumb it down for the idiot! I am doing what I can to learn more and am finding forums like this very helpful. I am also a member of wppa (well I took this year off, but will be back next year) and have found the conventions super helpful.
Another area that I struggle in is lighting. I love natural light and if I ever open a studio, it will be a natural light studio. I just struggle so much with my flash. sometimes its not enough, sometimes too much, never natural looking... but its never a client complaint, just me being picky I am sure. and if professionals looked at it I am sure they would agree!
I shoot canon, and mainly do everything by myself. recently I have hired an assistant to keep me organized and such during the wedding, and I am considering hiring a second shooter.
A special thanks to both Pierre and Sara from Liv for introducing themselves at recent bridal shows. It was much friendlier than the dirty looks I was getting from other Photographers!
okay, so there is my life story... let me know what else I can add!
